Description of the Managerial Competencies for Executives Program

The task of supporting the strengthening of the competitive capacities of an organization, for the search and reach of solutions to specific problems, requires that the teams of executive officers that the organizations have possess levels of technical excellence and human quality, which usually they are not acquired in the university classrooms. In this sense, the Universidad de los Andes developed the Graduate Program Managerial Competencies for Executives to meet the business demand of the emergence of the EXECUTIVE OFFICER BEING.

For the purposes of this program the Integral Chief Being, as a professional that combines in itself a set of domains, notations and technical knowledge, permanently updated, as well as some values, which place him in a position to provide his services, within clear principles of honesty and ethical and moral solvency, with a clear social responsibility.

The design and development of the Managerial Competencies for Executives Program contemplates that they act as Integral Leaders, capable of providing their activity with a strategic vision, useful for their development as individuals and for the organizational strengthening of the company where they work.

Technical Conception of the Program
From the technical perspective, and for the purposes of the Program, executive functions in organizations are assumed as fundamental tasks in business administration, which requires from those who exercise them a set of general and specialized competencies, in relation to the area in which the person works. These competences, as noted, should allow the person to uncover management, production or process problems, analyze them, and lead actions aimed at finding and implementing the respective solutions for those problems.

Humanist Conception
Comprehensive education, understood as the development of conditions that guide and support the growth of the individual as a person who lives in self-respect and respect for others, and who, thanks to their self-confidence and their technical qualifications, can contribute their knowledge and put them to service of meeting the needs of those who come to him for help.

Social Dimension
Although not always recognized, the social dimension turns out to be one of the axes of executive and managerial activity. Thanks to the work carried out by those who fulfill this type of tasks, it is possible to optimize production processes, improve the competitiveness conditions of companies and strengthen them as productive units of goods or services. These processes are always located in a specific spatial and social context, with clear incidences on productive dynamics, which leads to the need for managers and executives to have a basic knowledge about the conditions in which organizations operate, within clear social responsibility criteria.

Purpose of the program
As a result of the Program, we seek to strengthen the leadership and strategic management skills and competencies of a group of executives, seeking the development of skills and the appropriation of concepts and knowledge, necessary to achieve the consolidation of executive officers that promote the formation of their collaborators, teamwork and increasing levels of competitiveness in the organization.

Components of the Program
To fulfill the purpose of the Program, it is proposed to intervene in the following areas:
• Activation of Personal Transformation processes,
• The experience and internalization of Change,
• The appropriation of Techniques and Basic Tools of Leadership and Strategic Management.

In these dimensions we will act through:
• The internalization of the behaviors and attitudes that characterize the effective executive.
• The appropriation of basic conceptual and practical elements for the development of management processes in organizations.

Consequently, with the above, the Graduate Education Program will intervene in the following dimensions:

Humanist (transversal): It seeks the transformation of the individual (manager, executive), as a subject of change. In this sense, the application of experiential methodologies will be promoted, which promote the change of behaviors in people, as a basis to assume new attitudes and values, in accordance with the demanding conditions in which the consulting processes are developed.

Technical (Vertical): The acquisition of concepts, competencies, skills and tools is proposed, which allows participants to become effective promoters and supporters of change in organizations, within the most demanding standards of the exercise of these tasks.

Therefore, the Education Fields will be:
• Development of the Self - Subject that is recognized,
• Conceptual foundation - Subject that knows,
• Appropriation of Tools - Subject that acts.

All of the above will be addressed through three thematic components, namely:
• Human Management and Strategic Leadership,
• Project Management, and
• Strategic Finance.
